[comp.dcom.modems] $$$$$$$

As if we didn't have to pay the phone company enough already ! @#*%!@$%&!!!
I understand that we get NOTHING from this surcharge.
The following rates apply to our situation:
						min.	hour
Toll charge to nearest TELENET access point: .44/.18	$10.80
Proposed surcharge: .09 5.40
_______________________________________________________________
Total .53/.27 $16.20

If, in exchange for the surchage, we got free 950 service to TELENET,
that would be a big improvement, but noooooo. It's a 50% rate increase!

We do get lots of }~|}} free with just about every call, too.
Perhaps that's what they're surcharging us for!

Well, if you implement this the in the spirit of the original intent,
it would probably mean some savings to telenet. As part of the access
charge, the phone company would provide service between the exchanges
and the network point of presence. I have to believe that this would
mean a reduction for TELENET, which has to have numbers that are a local
call to most of its subscribers. Also, the number called from info would
certainly be useful to these data carriers if it were available.

Unfortunately, this bill makes little sense for the DATA over VOICE
system scenario rather than an integrated network.
