AT&T has just announced the following new modem products:
. DATAPHAONE II 2192A is capable of full-duplex,
synchronous data transmission over private-line
channels at up to 19,200 bits per second(bps).
It automatically can spot faults anywhere in
its connected network and diagnose them quickly
and accurately. The 2192A Modem is equipped with
an integrate six-port, time-division multiplexer and is
designed to allow a customer to test any of its six
ports without affecting service on the remaining five.
Suggested retail price is $9,500.
. DATAPHONE II 2296A provides full-duplex, synchronous
or asynchronous transmission at 4800 and 9600 bps over
standard telephone lines and conforms to the CCITT
V.32 international recommendation. This modem will
meet the needs of customers who want to transmit
quickly and reliably large volumes of information at
one time, but don't have the volume throughout the day
to justify a private line.
However, should a customer's transmission volume
increase enough to warrant a private line, the modem
also can operate over four-wire, private-line
networks. When equipped with an optional AUTOCALL
dialer, the modem can provide automatic switched
network backup to the private line. In addition, the
2296A is well suited for DATAPHONE Digital Service
disaster recovery application. The suggested retail
price ranges from $2,500 to $3,100 depending on the
configuration.
. DATAPHONE II 2224CEO & 2224G. The multiple-mount
2224G modem, which can be mounted in a rack that holds
eight modems, and the stand-alone 2224CEO modem
provide full-duplex communications over switched
networks. They operate asynchronously at 300, 1200 and 2400
bps and synchronously at 1200 and 2400 bps. The modems are
compatible with CCITT V.22 bis and V.22 recommendations as
well as the Bell 212A and 103 standards. Both models offer
error-free, asynchronous transmission through the use of Microcom*
Networking Protocol (MNP*), a popular error control protocol
that allows two compatible modems to communicate virtually
error free.
Other features include AT&T or Hayes** Smartmodem 2400
dialing protocol, built-in diagnostics, 19-number
autodial and automatic answering. The 2224G allows
for constant 9600 bps interface with automatic speed
matching to lower speed end points, which makes the
2224G ideal for modem pooling. The suggested retail price
for the 2224G is $650 and for the 2225CEO is $695.
. DATAPHONE II 48/96A Shared Diagnostic Unit (SDU)
enables the DATAPHONE II 2248A and 2296A modems to
interface with the DATAPHONE II network diagnostic system.
The suggested retail price is $625.
