A couple of months ago I posted an inquiry about USA-Flex's "desktalk II" 2400 baud external modem. I got two favorable reviews, and nothing unfavorable. Based on that, and USA-Flex's 30 day money back guarantee, I ordered one. The modem worked perfectly for just over two weeks. It then started going into auto-answer mode while I was on-line, which also broke the connection I was using. This gradually increased from a rare occurence, to the point that the modem was completely unuseable. In the end the modem would light ALL of it's 11 LEDs, and just sit there. It makes for a nice nite-lite, but not very good for telecommunications. I decided to simply return it for a refund, rather than chance further problems. After being routed through several different departments, and waiting for a couple of days for them to return my call, I did get a RMA, and the modem has been returned. Now this could be a rare fluke, but a friend also ordered one on my recommendation (before my troubles happened). His modem arrived DOA. If he jiggled the power switch just right, he could get the LEDs to flicker, but never got the modem to work. I guess two bad modems and two good ones give you a 50% chance of getting a good one. Unless the QA improves on this modem, I can't recommend it. P.S. The modem is labeled `"desktalk II" 2400' on the face plate, but the help screen says that it's the `Incomm Turbo 2400'. -- Blaine Gardner @ Evans & Sutherland 540 Arapeen Drive, SLC, Utah 84108 UUCP Address: {ihnp4,ucbvax,decvax,allegra}!decwrl!esunix!blgardne Alternates: {ihnp4,seismo}!utah-cs!utah-gr!uplherc!esunix!blgardne seismo!usna!esunix!blgardne
