I own a Racal-Vadic Maxwell 1200V modem for my Mac 512e. The Maxwell has
a minimal Hayes compatible instruction set *and* its own proprietary
command protocol. They are completely different, use different command
syntax (It is menu driven instead of command line.) There are no switches
of any kind on this modem. None. Just an LED to indicate connected.

Here's my problem--the eprom defaults to auto-answer on. If I reset the
modem (power outage, ATZ, or RV's reset command), auto-answer becomes
active again. The modem is in my home, so you can see the trouble this can cause
when the modem answers the telephone instead of me or my answering machine.

Now I know that I will NEVER need auto-answer. Can I turn this off permanently?
Is there a circuit that I can clip that will turn it off? I have called
RV several times, but they won't tell me.

This has become worse since switching to Red Ryder 10.0. I am now supporting
several other users' communication software needs by writing macro procedures
in RR. That means sticking to Hayes protocol. That also means f*cking up
my modem and anyone who tries to call me.

Has anyone else had experience working with the RV Maxwell 1200V, and do you
have any suggestios?

HAAAALLLPPPP!
