In INFO-IBMPC 6:64, Gary Dunn asks about CTS 2400-ADH modems giving a high noise-to-signal ratio for received data. I don't have any experience with the ADH series, but our 2400-ADA modems running at 2400 bps (but not 1200) have the distressing habit of showing the same symptom if the parity of the terminal program in the PC is not the same as that of the data being received. (Don't ask me why.) Killing the connection (via DTR toggle), changing the parity, and completely re-initializing the modem with the new parity setting made it all work properly. I've had some limited experience with other 2400 bps modems (Vadic, Novation) and didn't see the problem, but I'm not sure I actually had a parity mismatch condition during those runs.
