[comp.dcom.modems] Fastcomm 9600 Turbo and uucp

len@netsys.UUCP (10/31/87)

 Hi..

We just obtained a fastcomm 9600 turbo modem (300-19.2k baud) ,
and since we don't have any uucp connections using these modems,
I don't know if they work with uucp.

I do know that at speeds above 2400 baud, about the only protocols
that don't clash with their built in error correction is something
called ymodem/g and the ever excellent zmodem.

This is a real pain for me,not being able to turn off the error
 correction though..

If anyone has the source to "ymodem/g" (I believe it's ymodem with
all error correction routines removed) I would also love to have it.

 Any comments (?)

I'm not sure how germane it is to this discussion, but the new version of
PROCOMM (probably 3.0) is reported by Datastorm to include YMODEM-G protocol.
I was wondering what other comm programs had this available, and would also be
interested in source. Unfortunately (for many) Procomm does not have source
available and is for MS-DOS machines.

I wouldn't recomment YMODEM-g for the typical Unix system because most will
lose characters at high speeds, an error from which YMODEM-g cannot recover.

The rz/sz ZMODEM programs from comp.sources.unix recently are much better to
high speed transfers with Unix.
