[comp.dcom.modems] Hayes or AT&T modem?

samperi@dasys1.UUCP (Dominick Samperi) (11/26/87)

Can someone compare the performance and reliability of the Hayes 2400 baud
external modem with that of the AT&T 4024 modem? It seems that the Hayes modem
cannot be used with an AT&T 3B2 for dialins and dialouts at the same time,
while the 4024 can. I'm particularly interested in hearing about any
experiences with the 4024, since I know very little about this modem. Thanks.

Hi,
I am using the 4024 Modem they work just fine! I am using the 4024C
Script dialer for my operation. I also use an US Robotics in the AT
command set mode. It seem that UUCP while looking for the Device
Dialer tries to to see if an device is available it polls Carrier detect
to see if it comes high (+) for a micro second. I have the AT type
Modem working by pulling DTR and CD together. ANd setting the port
for Bidirectional porting. The only problem is that your machine (The
one with the At style modem) will not disconnect. It would require
close attention.
    I rather have the AT&T 4024 modem.
If you need the Dialer Script let me know
