I hope someone in this discussion group can help me out. Apologies if this is a redundant topic -- I'm not on the distribution list. Please post replies to philf@med-isg.stanford.edu or pfernandez@sumex-aim.stanford.edu. I am looking for recommendations for 9600bpd dial-up modems. Specifically, I want to identify a modem brand/model to use as a replacement for current Hayes 2400bps modems for communication between IBM-PC's and a Cisco ASM terminal server. Ideally, the modem would be Hayes command set compatible and would assert modem controls (e.g., Ring Indicate) on the answer side. Further, I'm looking for the lowest cost option I can find. I'd appreciate any recommendations/advice. phil

We have been testing 9600 baud modems and have had great success with both the Microcom and USRobotics modems. Both are Hayes compatible (with extensions). It's difficult for me to advise you on cost since our company buys through national contracts with both companies and gets hefty discounts. It used to be that the USRobotics was cheeper, but lately, we have been able to get the Microcom for less (about $50).
