[comp.dcom.modems] ATT PC7300 onboard modem/ATE3.5: "line disconnected Problem"

rli@bode.usc.edu (Rongsheng Li) (02/29/88)

I recently aquired an AT&T unix PC 7300 which has
an onboard modem and runing telephone manager 3.5 and
async. terminal emulation 3.5. Many of my friends have the exactly
the same setting when using it as a home terminal and they are
doing very well. It seems that I am the only person who has
bad luck and here is the problem and I hope someone out there
may provide some info to help me out.

When I use the telepone manager to make a data call, it dials
the # and I heard the ring, the high pitch tone and everythng
I expect. As soon as the connection is made, the system
begin to envoke ATE(i.e async. terminal emulation) and I got
the terminal screen but no remote system prompt and after
a few second the system gives a message says

"line is disconnected, touch enter to continue"

I am sure there is no problem with remote system, becuase I have been
talking to it so many times using a IBM Pc and an external modem.

I was using the setting with 1200bps buad rate, no parity, 7bit data and
1 stop bit. This should be correct for my case.

I wonder if this is a hardware problem because I am running the same
software as my friends. One thing stange is that the diagnosis software
can not find anything wrong with the modem, the modem passes the test
without any problem.

Anyone who has even the sligtest idea as to what is wrong, please
drop me a mail. my address is
