We are about to announce limited uucp access to the SIMTEL20 after a little bit more of beta testing. "limited" means that you will *only* be able to get files from this system ala ANONYMOUS FTP. This service will be available only via dialup access. What we need are a couple of volunteer beta test sites willing to make (long distance) calls to southern New Mexico (White Sands is east of Las Cruces and north of El Paso, TX on your map). To my knowledge, there is no PC-PURSUIT-like access available in this area. We currently have two Penril DataLink 2400 modem connected to a two-line rotary which support 300/1200/2400 autobaud. Of course, we would dearly love to connect a TrailBlazer (if we had one) at 19.2kbps (or even less), but, unfortunately, DEC chose to implement only the strict RS-232C interface and no CTS/RTS "flow control" is available. Further details will be made available to those sites which volunteer for this beta test cycle. Net-mail to me directly.
