[comp.dcom.modems] Everex 2400 internal PC modem vs. Telebit Trailblazer

brad@looking.UUCP (Brad Templeton) (03/29/88)

As most of you probably know, some 2400 baud modems gag on the PEP carrier
presented by the Telebit, and hang up immediately. One, it seems is the
internal PC modem from Everex.

I got the suggestion to have the Everex increase the value of its S9 and
S10 registers (time to accept carrier and time to hangup on lost carrier)
but nothing seemed to work.

I've been forced to have the Telebit switch the order it presents the
carriers to give the PEP carrier last. This means anybody who wants to
call me in Telebit mode has to have S50=255 to insist on PEP.

I am annoyed with this, of course. Has anybody else had any success in
this area?

My telebit dialer knows to S50=255 when dialing at or above 9600 baud.
Do most other people's do the same thing these days?
