We recently purchased an AT&T 4024C 2400 baud modem for use with our 3b2/300 computer. We chose this modem because the Hayes modem that we were using previously could not be used for both dialouts and dialins (without some hardware changes). After a week of use, it appears that the 4024C works fine, but it does not completely solve the dialin/dialout problem. In particular, it can call a Hayes (compatible) modem without difficulty, but when it is called by a Hayes modem, it sends a signal that the Hayes modem does not recognize as a carrier. Typically, the caller (using a Hayes modem) must make 2-3 attempts before the Hayes modem recognizes the 4024's carrier signal, and sometimes the caller must make as many as 9 attempts (phone calls, that is). Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
