You don't mention the application.  Do you plan to use it over dialup telephone
lines or leased lines?  If you need a full-duplex modem over dialup lines, V.32
compatibility is a must.  These modems are not cheap (I think UDS has the
cheapest at $1500).  If you want 9600bps over 4 wire leased lines, get a V.29
compatible modem.

I don't know anything about the Courier 9600.  The "Trailblazer" is a product
manufactured by Telebit.  It supports considerably more than 9600bps over
leased lines (I think it supports up to 18Kbps, or something like that).  The
Trailblazer uses some unique technology that allows a more efficient use of a
noisy line.
