[comp.dcom.modems] V.32 chips to lower cost of 9600 modems

steveg@ritcsh.UUCP (in stereo where available) (05/06/88)

I was wondering if anyone has heard of a V.32 chip being
developed by Rockwell?

I have heard then when it comes out, that is if it has
not already hit the market, that the cost of 9600 baud
V.32 dial modems will drop and also standardize.

So far I am only supporting 2400 and lower with optional
class 5 MNP, but if the costs of 9600 baud come down
along with an accepted standard I will try to get some
installed here (at least a few at first to try out).

Eventhough USR is using the Rockwell chipset in the HST, a person
from USR recently told me that the V.32 modem that they will be
coming out with is going to use a chipset of their own design. He
claimed that none the less, USR would have very agressive pricing.
This, of course, remains to be seen at the moment...
