If you have a domain name which is hiding your internal net organization, don't try to order a 3rd or 4th modem for a second machine which is not listed explicitly in the UUCP maps. Telebit takes a dim view of this, although Ballard, the marketing mgr knows perfectly well what domain names are and how they work (i.e., to reduce map volume.) The rules stated by Telebit allow 2 modems per machine, or up to 4 total per organization (2 per site, 2 modems per site.) I ended up on the defensive listening to him explain what the promotion is trying to do, as if I was trying to cheat them out of something, when if fact, all I was trying to do is to take advantage of the offer, as stated. Imagine what would happen if they took someone at his word: they might end up shipping 4 modems. Gasp. I mean, if you only want to sell 2 modems per company, say so. Who needs the hassle? Needless to say, my appreciation for the modem is greater than the bad taste left by this exchange. I'm adding my second machine to the maps, domain name or not. But be warned to take care of this first. -- Steve Dyer dyer@harvard.harvard.edu dyer@spdcc.COM aka {ihnp4,harvard,husc6,linus,ima,bbn,m2c}!spdcc!dyer
