I have a SupraModem 2400 from Supra Corporation in Albany, OR. It has an intermittent problem that causes it to drop into command mode after the "CONNECT xxxx" message shows up. The carrier is still there...I can do an "ATO" command to reconnect, but this behavior is not very nice for my uucp dialers to handle. I'm trying to find information from someone on what could cause the modem to drop into command mode like that. I called them and the person I talked to said "maybe a chip went, send it back and we'll replace it". Well, I did that, but he tried it out and it worked fine for him(surprise, surprise), so he sent it back saying it's probably a software problem. We're running an HP9000/825 with HP-UX v2.0 which is using HDB UUCP. If I can find the cause, maybe I can remedy the problem... I have a Supra2400 on our 3B2/310 for dial-in/dial-out operation. I found that *at least* a 2 second delay is required after the modem sends a response to the computer. I haven't tried the numeric result codes to see if the same delay is required. So, I have inserted \d before all of my outputs to the modem except the special case of "" (if you put \d in front off the null-string code, the pair of double quotes is actually sent to the modem -- at least on 3B2 HDB). I had also contacted the company through their Technical Support line and gave them my symptoms (similar, but not the same, as yours) and this was the answer that fixed the problem. I still think it's a great modem, and for $125 external who can beat it?? ----- "Spock, have you finished those computations yet?"
