Thanks to Daniel Stone of Purdue University, I discovered that the above
problem is not hardware related (thank goodness). I appreciate the help
and suggestions of everyone else who responded (in case my E-mail letter
did not make it to you). For others who may be having the same problem
with their Hayes SM 2400, I suggest you try do reset registers 6 & 7 to
your needs. As with my particular problem, a fix was made by simply
reducing S7 from 30 Secs. to 10. There was no need to change S6 = 2 Secs.
All the above problems have now disappeared and the modem operates
properly. Again, thanX to everyone for their assistance.
