This is my first message on this newsgroup, but it looked like the right place to go, as far as I can tell. I'm requesting your opinion on the probability that a problem is located in my modem. The problem is: (I'm running a Mac SE, 40meg HD, 6.0/4.2, and a 3+ year old Applemodem 1200) After being connected via modem to *anything* (bbs, local host, a friend's computer, whatever) for about 10 minutes, I get a short burst of line noise, followed by disconnection, e.g., gh87go,H87hgNO CARRIER..... All cables have been checked, wiggled, unplugged and replugged, and tightened. My telephone works fine, and I have no significant local line noise problems. As I said, the modem is over 3 years old, and has been used, oh, I'd say, an average of 3 hours a day, every day during that period. My professional and academic work (I'm a grad student and full-time teacher) are VERY computer intensive, to the extent that I'm hesitant to go computer-less for several days while some technician "looks at it." The question is, does this sound like a shot modem? E-replies are welcome, but unreliable. This should be of sufficient interest to post follow-ups. ANY information/opinions would be GREATLY appreciated. _______________________________________________________________________________ <||>---Ron Morgan---<||>-UUCP: {ihnp4,allegra,ut-sally}!emx!osmigo-<||||||||||> <||>-Univ. of Texas-<||>-------osmigo@emx.UUCP---------------------<||||||||||> <||>--Austin Texas--<||>-ARPA: osmigo@emx.utexas.edu---------------<||||||||||> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
