[comp.dcom.modems] Telebit lock-up

rick@pcrat.UUCP (Rick Richardson) (06/18/88)

We have a Trailblazer Plus with the 3.0 ROMS, and have been very happy
with it.

However, a couple of days ago we took a power glitch that was long
enough to cause all of our computers to reboot, but short enough that
all the digital clocks around here remembered the time.

The 'Blazer was locked up for a day before I realized it. When I
discovered the problem, I looked at the modem status lights. "MR",
and "DTR" were lit, as usual. However "CTS" was not lit (unusual).
I had to power cycle the 'Blazer to clear this condition.

Since nearly every product with a uP in it has a "sanity", or "watchdog"
timer, I'd assume that the 'Blazer has such a circuit. If so, I'd
recommend that Telebit monitor the state of CTS and if it has been
down for an abnormally long time, allow the sanity timer to trip
and reset the modem.
