[comp.dcom.modems] dialing modem using SPRINT

alan@metasoft.UUCP (Alan Epstein) (07/13/88)

has anyone had experience dialing a modem to a long distance BBS
using a SPRINT (or MCI, etc) account?

the problem is that there are too many digits and pauses. it is
of course possible to add a ';' at the end to return to command
mode after dialing, but to execute another ATDT command requires
a dial tone, which is no longer there.

anyone have a good idea?

PLEASE SEND REPLIES VIA E-MAIL.

thanks.

Yeah, move somewhere that has equal access so that you can
use the 10+ dialing convention.

In article <403@metasoft.UUCP> alan@metasoft.UUCP (Alan Epstein) writes
about trying to use his modem with Sprint.

I've done it with a USR Courier, which can wait for the LD service
to pick up the line. For instance:
	ATX6
	ATD9501033W0xxxyyyzzzz,aaabbbccccdddd

It was also possible to do it with a other modems, though harder. For
example, the Telebit TrailBlazer Plus, with all its other smarts, does
not support wait-for-answer (but allows a command buffer of up to 80
characters). If you're running out command buffer, try setting S8 (comma
pause time) to a higher value, like 4 seconds instead of the standard 2.
