I received a UDS EC224A/D 2400 baud async modem this week to evaluate. After doing some testing, I encountered the following problems: When dialing through a touch-tone service, the "*" and "#" tones are reversed. If you need to dial ATDT*701234567, you must use ATDT#701234567, and vice versa. While originating a call at 1200 or 2400 baud, if the answering modem does not answer on the first or second ring, the UDS modem will send out a 300 baud carrier, and by the time the other modem answers, if it falls back, both modems will connect at 300 baud. It was difficult to determine these problems, since the EC224A/D model has no speaker. But by attaching a telephone set to the unit (these modems use a special RJ-11 to RJ45 telephone wire), and listening to the tones and carrier, I was able to isolate the problems. I called UDS Technical Support, and they verified that these two problems do exist. They said that the problems are being worked on, and a "future release" of the firmware will correct these problems.
