[comp.dcom.modems] AT&T 386 UNIX flow control

bill@ssbn.WLK.COM (Bill Kennedy) (08/07/88)

I'm not sure whether this belongs in both groups, but I couldn't decide.
I have a no name 386 clone running AT&T 386 UNIX Vr3.1 and a new Telebit
Trailblazer Plus. I was able to get the TB+ to work just fine on COM1
at 19.2Kbps, but when I locked the interface I found out that COM1 will
not do RTS/CTS flow control. I moved the modem to one of the ports on a
Computone Intelliport AT-4 (latest firmware and driver rev.) and flow
control works perfectly at the slower bit rates but uucp stumbles and
coughs on both incoming and outgoing calls.

I'm sure I have done everything I can with the AT-4 and I'm fairly sure
there is little else possible there. Back when I had Microport V/386
there was some mention of how to make the asy (COM1/COM2 support) driver
do flow control. Maybe it was discussed in one of these groups. I love
the 19.2 performance but it's not as crisp on ttym00 as it was on tty00.
If tty00 would do flow control I'd switch back instantly. Does anyone
remember where the discussion was or could someone give me a steer? Thanks,
