Oh boy, am I having fun with the new blazer. A day after it arrived I discovered that it has a kink in its handling of S92=1 (what I call "PEP-tones-last" mode). If a human (or a salesperson) accidentally calls the modem and then hangs up, the blazer will answer all future calls with ONLY PEP tones, making it impossible for anything but another blazer to talk to it. After much experimentation (with hours of help from a friend), we found that the modem could be induced to return to normal if someone called it and simply waited for the blazer to exhaust itself and hang up. Only then would it give the expected sequence of tones on the next call. (Well, dialing out also fixes the problem but this modem does *much* more answering than calling.) So, we reluctantly switched to S92=0, which prohibits certain blazerless systems from calling ramona. But at least it seemed to fix the problem. We could call the modem from a regular phone, hang up, and the blazer would still answer the next call normally. Alas, today we discovered the blazer issuing only PEP tones again but this time refusing to return to normal even when we called it by hand and waited for it to hang up. So we are experiencing two different buggy behaviors, depending upon the setting of S92. The first one is 100% reproducible and possible to fix remotely while the second one appears to occur randomly and cannot be fixed remotely. My questions to the world are: 1. Has anyone else experienced this? 2. Is this a known problem with the firmware or do I have a broken modem? 3. Is there something wrong with the register settings below?
