To answer my own posting, I found that the various CCITT standards documents can be obtained from the following two sources: NTIS (703) 487-4600 (division of Dept of Commerce :-( ) OMNICON (800) 666-4266 Both organizations take credit card orders. The documents which cover the V.xx modem standards and G.x Fax standards are "Redbook" volumes 8.1 and 7.3 respectively. The bad news is that the 8.1 document is undergoing revision and is currently unavailable. If anyone has a copy of 8.1 and would be willing to photocopy the V.22, V.29, and V.32 modem standards I would be quite happy to reimburse any reasonable xeroxing charge. Considerable useful information about modem standards can be found in the Rockwell Modem Products Data Book, which contains a number of application notes on the details of modem implementation for various standards. Rockwell HQ is at (714) 833-4700; ask for the location of the local sales office. This book covers both data and FAX modems. The latter are rather interesting. Half-duplex FAX modems for 9600 baud (the R96MD) are down to $175 each. This is a two-chip board. The single-chip 9600 baud half-duplex modem is scheduled for March 1989. John Nagle

WARNING - the CCITT documents are copyrighted materials and photocopying is not permitted. Copies of 4 year old materials (i.e. obsolete) may be ordered from Omnicom or the ITU (see previous article for address). In early 1989 the 1988 versions will be available. Early drafts and final drafts of the 1988 version are available from participants in the work (as the sole US representative at the last Group 4 fax transmission meeting, I don't believe the US has anyone attending the Group 2/3 Fax work). -- AT&T o o 303-538-5004 Don Stanwyck || druco!stanwyck Denver, CO USA \__/ Telecom Standards

In In fact they can be ordered from NTIS, ITU, OMNICON, Global docs, etc. If they are in stock. Which they are not. I need to get started on my product now, not whenever the next rev of the standards are due out or when ITU decides they want to print more. I will revise my Xerox request to this: pls send me Xerox copies of the CCITT V.22, V.27, V.29, V.32 standards; when I receive a copy of same I will remit the sum of $37 (cost of vol 8.1) to ITU. > AT&T o o 303-538-5004 > Don Stanwyck || druco!stanwyck > Denver, CO USA \__/ Telecom Standards Rick Spanbauer
