[comp.dcom.modems] Trailblazer UART

bill@carpet.WLK.COM (Bill Kennedy) (09/28/88)

I have an internal Trailblazer in this '286 box and the serial driver
has trouble keeping up at 19.2Kbps. I am grooming a new driver that
will take advantage of the FIFO's in the NS16550A (using the other
COM port). The UART on the Trailblazer is soldered in which means
that I will have to void my warranty to replace it with a socket for
the new part.

Before I void the warranty, I would like some thoughts from anyone who
might have tried the same thing or thought about it. Has anyone done
something like this? My suspicion is that while the UART is managed
by the 68K in the standalone, I control it as COM2 (that's where it's
strapped) on the internal model and I won't screw anything up by
changing it or the driver that talks to it. Since this probably only
interests me and a few others, please email and I'll summarize. Thanks,
