I recently purchased a n Everex Evercomm 942 2400 baud internal modem for my IBM PS/2 Model 50Z which works fine except for one thing, it answers the phone after the first ring if it rings while I am using the computer but haven't used the modem. I have asked several people about it and gotten several answers, none of which have really helped. First of all, is my modem defective? Or is it just need to be told to not answer the phone? I know that the command to do this is ATS0=0. If that is the case, then how do I send this command to the modem at start up under DOS 4.00? If I can write a Turbo C program to do it what is the proper address of the COM2 port? And how can I querry the port to be sure that it is set properly? The DOS manuals say very little about any of this. The Turbo C manuals are the same. The Everex manuals give an address range of 02f8-02ff (in hex, of course) for COM2. There is a note about PS/2 computers using all 16 bits rather than the first 10. What does this mean, beyond the obvious? The Everex people didn't help much. I would appreciate knowing if the modem was broken or that this is just a common problem that I need to fix. If anyone can help, please e-mail me.
