[comp.dcom.modems] Result of Trailblazer behavior survey

andrew@ramona.UUCP (Andrew Ernest) (11/07/88)

Quite some time ago I posted a procedure for blazer owners to test if
their modems would start answering calls with PEP-tones-only if S92=1
and someone called the modem and hung up before establishing a
connection. I would like to thank the people who responded. The
results show that the blazer is very sensitive to the precise
frequency which the phone company emits when the modem keeps the line
off-hook after the caller has hung up. Some respondents were able to
duplicate the problem while others could not. One person explained
that his modem doesn't declare it a BUSY signal (as mine does) but
rather a RRING!! So clearly the Trailblazer is being confused.

The good news is that I finally convinced Telebit to open an MR on the
problem. This was understandably difficult because they cannot
reproduce the problem in their area. I asked the (very friendly and
attentive) support person I was dealing with to call me if the status
of the MR changed for the bad. It has been a couple of weeks since
they accepted the MR and I've heard nothing. That's a good sign. It
will be several months (at least) before the next firmware release,
however.
