If this makes it to the digest, fine. I had a rather strange experience with a new modem I found at a local pc-clone store. It's a Samsung (Korea) 2400 external, which was priced at $125.00. It is a Hayes compatible, in a nice solid aluminum box. Supposed to dial digits 0-9, *, #, and the 4th row 'ABCD'...Well, it seemed ok when I took it out of the box and hooked it up. I sent a test string to dial of "1234567890*#ABCD" and it dialed it okay. However, the 3rd time I tried it, the modem no longer dialed the "*" or "#". I tried this with a replacement modem from the store with the same results. It looks like the writers of the firmware need to debug things. Thought it would be of interest to other modem users. Samsung also has a 1200 external and a 2400 pc-type internal modem. I did not try any of them, but I would be suspicious.
