[comp.dcom.modems] Telebit Deliveries

logajan@ns.UUCP (John Logajan x3118) (12/15/88)

I just got my Telebit Trailblazer Plus delivered yesterday. I ordered it
at the end of November. Not bad, considering that their acknowledgement
didn't promise it until the end of December.

It seems to work (I've only actually uucico'd with it at 2400 baud because
my software doesn't understand higher baud rates -- yet. My present uucp
is for an Atari 520 ST, from Beckemeyer Development tools. It works, but
it doesn't use the window feature of the g protocol. From watching the
lights blink, I think that means my effective average throughput is about
120 cps -- yuk. New software is definately needed to utilize the power of
the Trailblazer!)

I didn't find the manual confusing at all. Perhaps everybody is talking
about undocumented operations, but I'll only learn about those through
experimentation and experience.

The only complaint I have so far is that the modem does not do a
particularly good job of autobauding to the DTE speed. My work around
is to set the DTE at the highest speed, let the analog end autobaud,
lock the DTE speed, and do flow control (CTS/RTS).
