[comp.dcom.modems] CASE 1224

Roger@cup.portal.com (Roger Dean Holmstedt) (12/23/88)

Can anyone offer some assistance please?

Here's the scoop;

I have a chance to pick up a 2400 baud modem, cheap.

Problem: no manual, and no one seems to know much about it.

The modem is a CASE 1224 model and appears to support MNP (level unknown).
I say appears because when I connect to a modem known not to support MNP,
I get a regular CONNECT message. However, when I connect to a modem known
to support MNP (local TELENET indial, confirmed by local source) I get a
CONNECT/DR (for Data Recovery?) message.

Now the questions;

1) Does this modem support MNP? If so, what level?

2) Does anyone know anything about the front panel switchs (TK AN LS 300
SYN AL ST DL RDL)?

3) Does anyone know anything about the status registers? It responds to
status queries (ie AT S1? responds with 000) but, without a manual, I
don't know what the registers are or what settings to use.

4) Connecting to the local TELENET indial seems to work fine, as well as
connecting to Portal (I have not tried an outdial yet), but when trying to
connect to one particular local 2400 baud bbs, the modems screech at each
other, but don't connect. At 1200 baud I do get connected, but the modems
screech for awhile (more than I'm used to) before connecting. Any clues?
(BTW, other local bbs's seem to work fine but, of course, the one I really
want to connect to is hosed. Also, I can hardly hear the other modem,
even with the speaker volume up all the way. Perhaps this is the problem?
If so is there anything I can do about it?)

Any info will be greatly appreciated.
