[comp.dcom.modems] MNP retrofit kits?

jsilva@cogsci.berkeley.edu (John Silva) (02/03/89)

I am looking for a way to add MNP support to my existing Hayes compatible
modems, preferably through the use of a black box attached between modem
and computer. Any help on this matter will be appreciated.

I have such a "black box". It is a discontinued item made by Anchor
Automation (of noisy, cheap modem fame) called the Signalman Error Free.
It's a modem-sized box that goes between your computer and modem. It
implements MNP of an unknown class (probably 3). It's a bit kludgy
but it does work; I used it for a while until getting MNP5 modems
myself.

If you're interested, make me an offer. I think they cost $200 new.
I bought this one at a flea market for $100. If you want to
reach me voice about this, try evenings > 6PM EST at 718-667-1450.

The BLACK BOX company makes just such a "black box". I've seen it in
their catalog for about $150, and as I recall it only implements MNP2
which is adequate for a clean link.
