[comp.dcom.modems] Universal modem?

A few days ago, I saw a message that referred to a new Telebit
modem. This rumored modem could speak PEP (Trailblazer), V.32, AND
Courier HST! Remarkable!

With the Unix world settled on Trailblazers and the BBS world
settled on Courier HST, I thought that one modem that could speak
both was too good to pass up. And it seemed a resonable
expectation. The Telebit modems contain a good deal of
programmable signal processing power. Speaking Courier HST might
be just a ROM change.

So I called Telebit to ask when I could get one.

Turns out that the rumored modem does not exist. The salesman I
spoke to had never heard of this and had never gotten any
requests for it.

However 'Telebit is a market driven company'.... So....

Consider the prospect of a modem that does all of this:
  - Speaks to Trailblazers, V.32, Courier HST, V.29 fax at 9600,
and of course, standard 2400 and 1200.
  - Includes MNP with compression to effectively double all of
    these rates.
  - Includes protocol spoofing for uucp, xmodem, ymodem for file
    transfer speed.
  - Price about the same as the present Trailblazer/V.32 dual modem.

If you'd buy one of these, then call Leon Tongret at Telebit, Inc.
415-969-3800 and tell him that. Perhaps we will see one out soon.
