[comp.dcom.modems] Packard Bell IS/EM 2400

I happen to own one of the aforementioned modems, and it seems to have
a problem with hanging on to a carrier. After connection for a few minutes
the CD light goes out and the modem hangs up shortly thereafter. At this
point, the CD light sometimes comes back on, and the modem may start sending
itself garbage.

It's usually still possible to put it into command mode and send an ATZ but
after this usually it will report NO DIALTONE if you try to dial out. Once
I got this wicked light show with all the LEDs on the front panel flashing
repeatedly.

Um - this seems to have been a degenerative problem - it got progressively
worse. I just reseated all the ICs and so far nothing's happened but I'm
holding my breath as I type.

Finally, the meat. Has anyone had a similar problem with this model of the
Packard Bell? (IS/EM 2400) How did you fix it? Does anyone have any suggestions?

(Other than 'buy a new modem') Is there a God?
