Wait a sec- you can get a T1000 modem for $795 list. Not twice the USR.

There's a good reason why the TB+ is more expensive than the USR. It does
a lot more! The USR can't hold a candle to the TB+ on precompressed data,
on low quality phone lines, on protocol support, on upgradeability (even
if the TB can't be PROM-upgraded to V.32, many other things *have* been
added over time w/ PROM upgrades!), on connectability to a variety of
hosts, etc etc etc.

The USR is sufficient for many peoples' needs. The TB+ is the only thing
that will do the job in many other situations, however!
