I can't get Kermit v2.31 (ms-dos) to recognize the internal modem on a Zenith supersport 286. From the modem documentation, this is the same modem as was used on the earlier Z-181 portable, so experiences with that machine might be relevant to my problem. It uses serial port 2, but kermit won't recognize it that way, i.e. with set port 2. Set port bios2 does better; at least show modem shows DSR on. But I can't CON and type ATZ or anything else to the modem. When I CON, I get a whole screen full of constantly paging garbage. I'd appreciate any ideas, pointers to relevant sections of documentation, or whatever. --Thanks. Eliot Smith, Dept. of Psychology, Purdue Univ. esmith@psych.purdue.edu OR esmith@purccvm.bitnet

Two questions: Can you get it to talk to *any* terminal software? Have you turned it on? (No seriously...) The SuperSport (or SupersPort) has a different command to turn it on. I think it's C> machine modem on ...or something. Usually I made a batch file like MODON.BAT and MODOFF.BAT for any portable that I use so that I can always type the same command. Check your manual. This messes up a lot of people that used to have a different Zenith portable and move up to the SupersPort. Good luck. -Tom f -- Tom Limoncelli -- tlimonce@drunivac.Bitnet -- limonce@pilot.njin.net Drew University -- Madison, NJ -- 201-408-5389 Standard Disclaim er.
