[comp.dcom.modems] Rockwell's power hungry modem chip

davew@gvgpsa.GVG.TEK.COM (David C. White) (04/04/89)

Hopefully the following from the March 27, 1989 PC WEEK writeup
on the Rockwell RC224AT modem chip is a misprint, or maybe
a Three-Mile Island will be offered as an option:

"Of particular importance to the laptop
market is the fact that the RC224AT's 305-megawatt
power requirement is the lowest available to
date, according to Dudley Westlake, Rockwell's
	modem project manager.
The chip's unique Auto Sleep mode -
under which the chip requires only 37 megawatts
of power when inactive - provides further power
	conservation, he said."
