[comp.dcom.modems] Modeming in France

DeadHead@cup.portal.com (Bruce M Ong) (03/29/89)

My appologies if this question has been asked and answered before...

I have a friend who wants to bring back to france a pocket sized modem
to connect her ibm compatible system to the french phone system. She says
the french phone plugs are different from the american AT&T modules. Does
anybody know if one can get an adapter so that she can connect the modem
to the wall plug?

Also, can anybody suggest a pocket modem to buy that will work with the
french phone network?

Thanks. Please e-mail your response as I do not check in this group often.

I suggest she buy a modem in France. Although she may get it
through customs, it's probably illegal to hook it up to the phone
system there. I'm just comparing with our experience in England.
Although we could have purchased a 50Hz Trailblazer and mailed it
to them, law required it to be purchased in England where the the
modems had been approved by their equivalent of our FCC.
