In Philly's horrid lightning storm of May 2nd, a surge seems to
have nuked my ancient modem:
Bell dataphone 300/1200 manual dial w/five buttons on the
front. It's attached to a monstrous multi-line touch tone
phone. When I press the AL button, (analog loop), the phone
line would pick up and no dialing could occur. The light on
the phone would also light. Now, it doesn't. The modem does
not take control of the phone line.
Any ideas? In case the chips were toasted, they are
1 AMI 8107MJ (4K DRAM?)
1 AMI 8049BI (microcontroller?)
both of which are 40-pin ceramic DIPs. (Schwebernet says
similar chips were discontinued in 1976!)
Thanks for any suggestions about where to find replacement chips
or schematics/specs for the phone or modem.
