[comp.dcom.modems] Strange behaviour with USR modem

dan@sparkles.dcss.McMaster.CA (Dan Trottier) (06/14/89)

I've been trying to connect a US Robotics 2400e to our Sun 4/280 and
can't seem to get the proper configuration. Hopefully someone has run
into this situation before and can help me out.

I have the modem connected to ttyb on the machine. The modem is connected
to the port with a straight cable supporting lines 1-8, 20, and 22. When
I dial into the modem I see the SD an RD light blink rapidely and then the
modem hangs up. The interesting thing is if I reverse lines 2 and 3 the
same proceedure results in a CONNECT 2400 message. If I now flip the switch
so that 2 and 3 are no longer reversed I get a login prompt and all is
well.

I've tried calling the technical support department for USR but all I seem
to get is a busy signal.

Thanks
