[comp.dcom.modems] Need V.29 info

dacwmk@uts.amdahl.com (William M. Kules) (06/14/89)

Does V.29 specify a true, bi-directional 9600 baud link?
Does V.29 provide for V.22 compatibility?
Are V.29 modems able to operate at 1200/2400 baud?

Please e-mail responses.

V.29 is a standard that describes signalling methods for 9600 bps leased
line synchronous modems. It is full duplex over a 4-wire leased line, half
duplex of a 2-wire or dial-up connection.

V.29 modems typically offer a fallback to 4800 and/or 2400 bps rates, a
low speed reverse channel and perhaps a dial line fallback capability.

Is also possible to use V.29 signalling techniques to perform other tasks
like implementing an asynchronous modem with 9600 bps channel for the
primary data direction and a 300 or so bps channel for the other direction.
