[comp.dcom.modems] Pratical Peripherals cause Sun to crash?

phil@wubios.wustl.edu (J. Philip Miller) (06/29/89)

We have 2 Pratical Peripheral PM2400SA modems attached to an ALM-2 on a SUN
3/260 running SUN/OS 4.0.1 with all Sun Patch tapes. The system crashes,
perhaps once a day. The timing of the crashes suggests that it occurs right
after answering an incoming call. SUN claims to support only Hayes modems.
While the PP modems appear to be very Hayes compatible when used on a PC, it
is possible that there is an incompatiblity at the electronic interface level
that is causing this problem. Before I go out and buy Hayes modems to test
this hypothesis, I would apprciate any insights by readers on the net.
