[comp.dcom.modems] GOLDSTAR 2400 MODEM

rmarks@KSP.Unisys.COM (Richard Marks) (06/28/89)

Hi all,

I just got a Goldstar 2400 modem. Cost $170. Besides the
hayes 2400 compatible command set it can handle V.22 synchronous.

I have only used it in async mode so far. Seems to work, but there
is some noise on the line - more junk than I got with my old
reliable Ventel 1200.

I know I could have gotten a "no name 2400" for about $120, but after
readiing this group I know that there is a difference with 2400 bps modems.

Does anyone have more experience with this modem yet?

Thanks in advance,

Richard Marks

I have had one for about 8 months. Yes...there seems to be quite a
lot of line noise. Other things I have noticed are:

Occasional failure to hang up line after disconnect.

	Occasional scrambling of registers.

All in all...a very cheaply built modem. Not terrible, just cheap.
