[comp.dcom.modems] Junk Fax

eli@spdcc.COM (Steve Elias) (08/08/89)

I can't let Earl's comments below go unchallenged!
if you don't want junk fax, turn off the machine or get an unlisted number.

or... buy a PC-fax board. your faxes will simply be buffered on your
hard disk. you can preview them and only print those you give a hoot
about. no cost to you except that your phone line is tied up.

i'd be more worried about people sending infinite fax garbage files
than the random fax-advertisements that arrive...

[by the way, i confess to being one of the originators of junk fax.
i faxed a strange photo from a fishing journal to hundreds of
advertisers in Byte magazine. it helped to debug the software!]

!!If you don't want junk calls, turn off your telephone. If you don't

!!one recently passed in Connecticut that makes it a crime to send a
!!fax to someone who isn't expecting it!

!If you don't want to breath the polluted air in Northern New Jersey,
!just stop breathing. Don't pass laws to control the polluters. Don't
!make it a crime to shovel crap onto someone who doesn't want. If
!someone dumps crap on you, it's your problem. You were standing in the
!wrong place.
