The computing services organization here at USC has recently made available a rack of Penril Alliance V.32 modems for use to access systems on USCNET. If you know of a source where I can buy a single (standalone model) Penril V.32 modem, of if you have any comments about Penril products, please reply or followup. These modems were relatively inexpensive to USC-UCS, I was told. Side comment: UCS also provides Micom 2400bps modems for dialup use. They are despised by myself and at least some UCS staff. My Paradyne 2400 modem fails to connect to the Micom modems at least 50% of my attempts. Micom, if you are listening, I will give you good press if you will help USC replace their junky Micom modem pool with something more reliable. (Ha.) Thanks, Gary BTW, let me know if you would like to try to connect to one of the USC V.32 modems to test compatibility. I think it would be unwise to broadcast the hunt group phone number here.
