cosmo-rt@cosmo.UUCP (CosmoNet / Herr Tress) (08/23/89)

Hi,
we are looking out for an interface wich converts Fax Information
to normal ASCII files.

The problem is to extract the ASCII Information without of every incoming
Fax Document.

Does anybody has a good Tip or solution <???

most of the PC-fax manufacturers offer character recognition
as an option. check the magazine reviews of the different
boards... or contact the manufacturers themselves to hear
	details on their particular options...

Unfortunately, about the only way you're going to be able to convert a FAX
document into ASCII form is by scanning the bit image FAX graphics attempting
to recognize characters. It's a relatively simple process if the document
uses a known font or typeface, but handwritten FAXes or esoteric fonts or
typefaces are probably a horror.

What system/os do you need this for? Several products are already on the
market to address this issue. I don't know how many can generate the ASCII
text on the fly (as it's being received), most of them do it after the fact
from a disk file.
