[net.records] "Heavy" vs. "Medium" in KCMU playlist

peterr (04/11/83)

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with most of the records of the posted
playlist, and while it's true that I'd certainly call some of the records in
the "medium" category "lighter" than some in the heavy category, I was
astonished to see Orchestral Manoeuvres In the Dark's Dazzle Ships called
heavy while Echo and the Bunnymen's Porcupine is called medium. I don't
really want to debate the classification of these two albums, but just
indicate that one should be careful, at least, of putting much faith in
the categories. Thanks to the poster of the list, by the way; if Seattle
has the record stores that exhibit the variety of KCMU, it'd be a nice place
to live (all other things being equal!).

"Heavy" vs. "Medium" is not a direct critique of the merits of an
album, it is only a reflection of the amount of airplay being given to
it. This is of course influenced by the popularity of the LP with our
listeners, which in turn is occasionally a product of the record's quality.
