Well, I've finally figured it out...I have a bad power supply. Scenario: I have a Racal-Vadic 2400V which has given intermittent power to its users for most of its life. It belongs to the CS Dept. here at Tulane University, but evrybody there got tired of it doing strange things, so I got it "to use until I graduate if I can get the thing to work." The symptoms are simple: in the middle of a connection, or at some seemingly random point in time, the modem will start to click violently. Assumedly it's the relay that connects the line to the circuitry. Last week, I found a newer 2400VP which had been working fine most of its life. I borrowed its power supply, and have been running fine on the 2400V for a week. Today I decided to try an experiment. I plugged the original supply back in and ran the modem off that, and *poof!*, in about five minutes the thing was just clicking away (right in the middle of a connection, mind you). Question: Does anybody know where I could get a replacement supply for this, REALLY CHEAP? After all, it's not my modem, but I would like for the thing to work until I graduate in May. Here's the specs: INPUT: 120 VAC, .25A OUTPUT: +12V, .2A -12V, .2A +5V, 1A Common The output connector is a 5 pin DIN, but that could be kludged if necessary. Also, would anybody know what the problem with the existing power supply might be, so that I could maybe just "fix" that one? Thanks for the help! -- Thanks Chris Cleeland, Tulane University ADDRESS: cleeland@rex.tulane.cs.edu Disclaimer: "I'm a student -- I can't afford to buy one!"
