[comp.dcom.modems] Looking to order modem

Could any of you modem gurus tell me where I could order a cheap but
reliable "smart" modem (i.e. one that I can just hook to a terminal and a
phone and log into other computers). I am looking for something >=1200 baud.

I have an Anchor 2400E. I use it for dial-in from a terminal only.
It has been in daily use for well over a year. The first one I had
died the first week. The place where I bought it exchanged it with
no hassle. This one has been fine. Though I didn't buy it for use
with unix, I tested it and it worked fine. Since then I have installed
two of them in low use unix systems with no problems.
The features I like about it are front mounted On/off switch and
manual volume control. Also was the cost, $129.
The things I don't? All four Anchor's I have installed had lost
their factory setup. It took an "AT&F" to get them going. Also
there is a cheap looking decal mounted on top of an otherwise nice
looking box. It is not sealed. You can, and I did, spill a beverage
into the modem.
No flames please, I know it's a signalman. It works for me!
