I recently moved to a place where Telenet offers 2400 baud dialin port, and started changing some of my PC Pursuit uucp links to use the faster speed. I was susprised to discover that most of the links fail at 2400, though about 30% work perfectly. The failures occur right after ditka sends an "H" message if there was no work queued at this end, or somewhere during the transfers if there was work to do. At 1200, holding everything else constant (same number on remote system, etc.), everything works fine. Looking for patterns hasn't panned out yet. Of two sites in Chicago (ILCHI), one works, one fail. As for machine types there is quite a menagerie ... HDB certainly doesn't seem to matter, as a 3B1 with HDB is one of the ones that works, while a 3B15 (which I assume has HDB) fails. Background info: ditka is an AT&T 3B1 (aka UNIX PC) running 3.51dG1 system software (beta test version of the next and probably final bug release) and HoneyDanBer. I'm using a Telebit TrailBlazer Plus and the San Jose, California indials. Here are the transcripts of two -x7 uucico sessions, the first at 2400 and the second at 1200. ****************** * 2400 (fails) * ****************** mchFind called (them) list (rmail) num = 1 list (/) num = 1 list (rmail) num = 1 _Request (FALSE), _Switch (TRUE), _CallBack (FALSE), _MyName (), _Commands rmail chdir(/usr/spool/uucp/them) conn(them) Device Type ACU wanted mlock tty000 succeeded fixline(6, 2400) processdev: calling setdevcfg(uucico, ACU) gdial(tb2400) called expect: ("") got it sendthem (APAUSE APAUSE APAUSE APAUSE AT^M) expect: (OK) AAT^M^M^JOKgot it sendthem (ATS0=0S64=1S92=0S50=3S95=0DTW2866340^M) expect: (CONNECT 2400) ^M^JATS0=0S64=1S92=0S50=3S95=0DTW2866340^M^M^JCONNECT 2400got it gdial(pcp2400) called expect: ("") got it sendthem (PAUSE ^M^MPAUSE @PAUSE D^M) expect: (INAL=) ^M^J^M^JTELENET^M^J408 11A ^M^J^M^JTERMINAL=got it sendthem (D1^M) expect: (@) D1^M^J^M^J@got it sendthem (C D/ILCHI/24,PCUsername,PCPass^M) expect: (ECTED) C D/ILCHI/24,PCUsername,^M^J^M^J^JD/ILCHI/24 CONNECTEDgot it gdial(pcpdial) called expect: ("") got it sendthem (I^M@^M) expect: (@) ^M^J^M^JTELENET^M^J^M^J@got it sendthem (SET 1:0,7:0,4:2^MCONT^MPAUSE ATZ^M) expect: (OK) SET 1:0,7:0,4:2^M^J^M^J@CONT^J^M^JATZ^M^JOKgot it sendthem (ATDT5551212^M) expect: (ECT) ^M^JATDT5054011^M^JCONNECTgot it getto ret 6 expect: ("") got it sendthem (DELAY ^MDELAY ^MDELAY ^M) imsg > 2400^M^J^M^J^M^J^PShere=them^@Login Successful: System=them omsg "Sditka -Q0 -x7" imsg >^PROK^@msg-ROK Rmtname them, Role MASTER, Ifn - 6, Loginuser - uucp rmesg - 'P' imsg >^PPGge^@got PGge wmesg 'U'g omsg "Ug" state - [INIT code a] (1) state - [INIT code a]&[INIT code b] (3) state - [O.K.] (10) Proto started g *** TOP *** - role=1, setline - X gtwvec: dir /usr/spool/uucp/them wmesg 'H' rmesg - 'H' alarm 1 alarm 2 alarm 3 alarm 4 alarm 5 alarm 6 alarm 7 alarm 8 alarm 9 alarm 10 tries = 10 got FAIL cntrl - -1 omsg "OOOOOO" send OO 0,omsg "OOOOOO" imsg >|^@exit code -1 Conversation Complete: Status FAILED ****************** * 1200 (works) * ****************** mchFind called (them) list (rmail) num = 1 list (/) num = 1 list (rmail) num = 1 _Request (FALSE), _Switch (TRUE), _CallBack (FALSE), _MyName (), _Commands rmail chdir(/usr/spool/uucp/them) conn(them) Device Type ACU wanted mlock tty000 succeeded fixline(6, 1200) processdev: calling setdevcfg(uucico, ACU) gdial(tb1200) called expect: ("") got it sendthem (APAUSE APAUSE APAUSE APAUSE AT^M) expect: (OK) AAAT^M^M^JOKgot it sendthem (ATS0=0S64=1S92=0S50=2S95=0DTW2949119^M) expect: (CONNECT 1200) ^M^JATS0=0S64=1S92=0S50=2S95=0DTW2949119^M^M^JCONNECT 1200got it gdial(pcp1200) called expect: ("") got it sendthem (PAUSE ^MD^M) expect: (INAL=) ^M^J^M^JTELENET^M^J408 10G ^M^J^M^JTERMINAL=got it sendthem (D1^M) expect: (@) D1^M^J^M^J@got it sendthem (C D/ILCHI/12,PCUsername,PCPass^M) expect: (ECTED) C D/ILCHI/12,PCUsername,^M^J^M^J^JD/ILCHI/12 CONNECTEDgot it gdial(pcpdial) called expect: ("") got it sendthem (I^M@^M) expect: (@) ^M^J^M^JTELENET^M^J^M^J@got it sendthem (SET 1:0,7:0,4:2^MCONT^MPAUSE ATZ^M) expect: (OK) SET 1:0,7:0,4:2^M^J^M^J@CONT^J^M^JATZ^M^JOKgot it sendthem (ATDT5551212^M) expect: (ECT) ^M^JATDT5054011^M^M^JCONNECTgot it getto ret 6 expect: ("") got it sendthem (DELAY ^MDELAY ^M) imsg > 1200^M^J^M^J^M^J^PShere=them^@Login Successful: System=them omsg "Sditka -Q0 -x7" imsg >^PROK^@msg-ROK Rmtname them, Role MASTER, Ifn - 6, Loginuser - uucp rmesg - 'P' imsg >^PPGge^@got PGge wmesg 'U'g omsg "Ug" state - [INIT code a] (1) state - [INIT code a]&[INIT code b] (3) state - [O.K.] (10) Proto started g *** TOP *** - role=1, setline - X gtwvec: dir /usr/spool/uucp/them wmesg 'H' rmesg - 'H' state - [O.K.] (10) got HY PROCESS: msg - HY HUP: wmesg 'H'Y cntrl - 0 omsg "OOOOOO" send OO 0,omsg "OOOOOO" imsg >^P^I^H*"^I^P^B)^I^R0HY^@omsg "OOOOOO" imsg >@^@^H`,^@^HIx@^B^SP^@^@&E@^B(t@^B) ^@^@^@^C^@^Hd8^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^E^@^@^@H^@^I)t@^B^S^P^@omsg "OOOOOO" imsg >^@^@^@^P^I"*^H^I^P^I"*^H^I^POOOOOO^@exit code 0 Conversation Complete: Status SUCCEEDED Any ideas what's going on here?
