At the risk of making a stupid suggestion, have you considered calling up the magazines, guys? Most magazines tend to know in which issue certain articles appeared, and may even be glad to send you a copy.

MacUser, August 1989. Pg.90-114. InfoWorld, March 20, 1989, Macintosh Supplement. Both articles contain capsule reviews of all of the comm packages, a feature comparison chart, and ratings based on their respective rating systems.
